(Don’t worry, we’ll provide all equipment and wetsuits for every age and body type). Delight in watching your kid’s eyes come alive when they come close to these gentle creatures. And witness them learning first-hand how important it is to protect marine life and their aquatic ecosystem.

Birds Of The Galapagos

Blue Footed Boobies gather on a rock by the coast of the Galapagos Islands

Did you know that the Galapagos Penguin is the only species of penguin found north of the equator? These adorable birds have adapted to the warm climate of the islands and can be seen waddling along the shores or swimming in the waves. While your family navigates a private fleet of kayaks to one of the best places to spot them, they’ll often swim right up to you. And for those that need an extra boost, there’s the option to ride tandem with your guide who will act as extra propulsion. And don’t forget to look up! Soaring above you are the mighty Waved Albatross, also known as the Galapagos Albatross, which are magnificent birds with one of the largest wingspans around. And keep an eye out for the famed Darwin’s Finches, which are a group of small birds who have adapted to different ecological resulting in distinct beak shapes and feeding habits.

A trip to the Galapagos would not be complete without seeing the most iconic and amusing bird species called the Blue-Footed Booby. These charming seabirds are known for their vibrant blue feet, which they proudly display during their amusing mating rituals. Their “sky-pointing” displays and high-stepping dances are sure to have your whole family smiling ear to ear. Your guide will point them out during a walk on a beachside trail for the ultimate vantage point. Pausing on a walk, watch your kids become enraptured as your guide explains how the blue-footed boobies transform from goofy dancers into precision hunters as they plunge into the sea from extreme heights. Everyone will be in awe when these colorful creatures hit the water at nearly 60mph and dive to depths of nearly 90 ft!

Reptiles

Perhaps the most iconic species on the islands are the Galapagos Tortoise which is the largest living tortoise species, often having birthdays after 100 years old! With their distinct shell shape, which depends on the island they inhabit, these slow and gentle creatures are a favorite of locals and visitors alike. On our wildlife walking tour, you’ll get up close to them for the ultimate group photo (just like the family on tour at the top of this story). In addition to taking an awesome selfie with a centenarian tortoise, you’ll learn how conservation efforts are bringing this incredible species back from the brink of extinction.

Also wandering around are the Marine Iguanas, Land Iguanas, and Lava Lizards, each with their unique characteristics. Watching these prehistoric-looking creatures sunbathe on the beach or lazily stroll through the vegetation is a remarkable sight. They have evolved to blend in seamlessly with their surroundings, so get ready to take the game “I SPY” to a new level as you all try to spot the most reptiles throughout the week. Keep your camera ready so you can capture a picture of them before they scamper off.
