• Hotel Sahrai At Night

Hotel Recognized by Architectural Digest in the Heart of Morocco

Spiritual, intellectual, historic, and exotic—Féz is an electric city in northeastern Morocco, with the world's largest medina and bustling city center calling visitor's names. From its perch overlooking the city's ancient medina, the Hotel Sahrai remains the perfect place to stay while exploring Féz—offering a chic sanctuary of relaxation and luxury just outside the city center. Sophistication and modernity taking on the traditional, the five-star hotel was designed by the architect and Paris-based designer Christophe Pillet and enjoys spectacular views of the largest medina in the Arab world and surrounding city, taking in twelve centuries of history in one grand swoop. The hotel stands on the former site of General Lyautey's (the military governor of the French from 1907 to 1925) summer home and still contains some of the original structure and intricate detail. Architectural Digest recognized the property for its outstanding design and encapsulation of the property's name, Sahrai, derived from the Arabic word for magic.

The hotel contains 50 guest rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, washing the space in natural light. Designed to express extravagance blurred with simplicity and tradition, the fabrics and paints used are harmonized in grey and orange tones, adding warmth to the rooms and creating a welcoming atmosphere that becomes hard to leave.

The hotel offers several amenities including a state-of-the-art health club, a panoramic infinity pool, Techno Gym fitness room, and a Givenchy spa on site. The Givenchy Spa is located in the heart of the hotel and is an oasis of tranquility, beauty and relaxation built to embody the Givenchy spirit. The spa has five treatment rooms, a private Jacuzzi and a Givenchy boutique showcasing the Givenchy Fashion House's products.

The hotel has two bars and two restaurants on-site. The Relais de Paris Restaurant serves a Parisian brasserie menu, while the Amarz Restaurant invites guests to sample gourmet Moroccan and Lebanese cuisines from the surrounding areas. The rooftop Jungle Bar serves tapas and an extensive drink menu over sweeping views and Fez and the surrounding hills, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the evening's balmy Moroccan weather.

When you aren't basking in the delightful ambiance of the Hotel Sahrai, check out the beauties and spectacular contrasts of Féz. Begin your exploration of the city with a guided walk through the world's largest Medina and slip into small workshops and souks where you can purchase anything from colorful rugs to handcrafted leather. Quick Trips to Fit Your Busy Schedule

It’s hard to argue with the dream of a lazy month in Amalfi. How could a two-week safari in South Africa not have a certain appeal? When the stars align, an extended junket to India or New Zealand is the only way to go. But if your calendar is crowded, those windows of opportunity are as rare as a blue-footed booby dancing on your shoulder. You have plenty of vacation time; you just don’t have time to take a vacation. There’s your cousin’s wedding smack in the middle of June. Soccer tournaments, board meetings, holidays, jam-packed school years, the busy season when your boss frowns at PTO requests. Clearly, it’s time for a Quick Trip with Classic Journeys!

The Quick Trip formula is elegantly simple, and it comes from years of working with time-starved travelers—folks who are hungry for amazing experiences but who have to fit them into six days or less. Every Quick Trip is a no-compromises Classic Journeys’ vacation, hand-crafted to deliver immersive activities and cultural interactions in the company of full-time local guides. Award-winning luxury hotels and great food go without saying. In short, they’re fabulous vacations that don’t feel short at all. With decades of experience at curating trips around the world, we team up with our family of expert local guides to finesse itineraries to minimize logistics and keep the focus on helping you enjoy your vacation, your way.

You can choose from right-in-your-own-back-yard destinations throughout North America that keep flights to a minimum so you can maximize your time on the ground. The same holds true for Cuba, where it’s super easy to pull off a satisfying four-day weekend in Havana. The even bigger surprise is just how close some hot-ticket destinations—Iceland, the Galápagos and even Morocco are from major U.S. gateway cities. So instead of defaulting to a lowest-common-denominator trip when time is tight, you can spread your wings and enjoy the trip of a lifetime.

If you’ve given up fitting a vacation into that calendar of yours, think again. Or if you’re lucky enough to already have longer getaways planned but wish you could squeeze in just one more, a Quick Trip is the fast and easy solution.

Iceland Escape
5 days/4 nights
Wild, weird and wonderful Iceland is crazy close. Discover Morocco With Expert Local Guides That Feel Like Family

Deep in the dunes of the Sahara, a Blue Man, or a Tuareg man adorned in blue robes, materializes at precisely the right moment with a string of camels for you. In the maze of the Fès Medina, your newest djellaba-wearing friend veers you into a one-person-wide alley to bypass a gridlock of donkeys piled high with hammered copper. On a country walk, just as your stomachs start to wonder about lunch, a local family opens the door of their home and invites your family in for a hearty meal.

It may feel like good luck, as if somebody in Morocco rubs a magic lamp for you just in time, every time. But when you and your family go exploring with Classic Journeys, you quickly discover that you’re actually in the hands of a choreographed caravan of locals who love to surprise you at every turn with exceptional access to their exotic homeland.

To mastermind it all, you’ll have the full-time attention of amazing expert guides like Saida. She’s a thoroughly modern Moroccan, but with deep roots in tradition. A respected journalist in an earlier life, Saida broke the veiled ceiling to become one of Morocco’s first female guides many years ago. At the same time, she and her husband raised two daughters in the labyrinth of Fès. She’s your go-to resource if you want to talk shopping in the souks, international politics or the fine points of going to school in a centuries-old riad. Saida is fond of saying, “My friends are your friends,” and she’s not shy about proving it.

That kind of kismet happens when you go strolling in the foothills of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Out there, the apple orchards are carpeted in wildflowers. The only other traffic on your trail is a boy leading a donkey—Morocco’s renewable cargo vehicle of choice—loaded with firewood. But remote and rural as the setting is, up ahead Tarik and Badria are on the lookout for you at their home. They make sure the mint tea is hot and ready to pour. Your kids can hop onto mountain bikes for a spin ... and you all sit down together for a lively home-cooked lunch.

Farther afield, caravans heavy with gold used to find shelter in the ksar of Rissani, a fortified Berber village. Today, the treasure that awaits you is Ali, a native Berber with a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology and an uncanny talent for bringing history to life. In the shade of date palms that ring the nearby oasis fields, Ali also turns out to be the perfect cultural matchmaker as he introduces you to the farmers and their families.

Even the Sahara—as endless and empty as it looks from your Land Rover—is hospitable beyond what you could ever imagine. At the base of soaring, caramel-colored dunes, that spot of blue you see from a distance is Ibrahim. He’s a Blue Man, from the tribe named for their indigo-dyed clothes, and he’s your man with the camels. They’re ready to carry you on a cinematic ride into the desert. If any of you want to climb off to surf down one of the dunes, your wish is Ibrahim’s command. Then, just before nightfall, he’ll help you dismount at your own luxury tented encampment. Dinner is cooking, the campfires are burning bright, and you all settle in for a perfectly orchestrated night under the starriest skies you’ve ever seen.

You’ve never traveled in the care of such a big and friendly entourage at every step. Whether you’re swaying to the snake charmers in Marrakesh, making nice with Barbary Apes in a cedar forest or meeting students in their classrooms in Tamzenddirt, you’ll have wonderful, unexpected experiences because you are expected at every turn. To truly see and understand Morocco, it takes a family ...and ours is ready and waiting for yours at every step.
