Itinerary at a glance
DAY 1 - SAIGON
Our family vacation to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia begins in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) with a bike-powered rickshaw tour, including the Presidential Palace. For cool contrasts, our local guide Mai will take us to lunch in an awesome French villa, then down into the Cu Chi Tunnels where thousands of Viet Cong lived during the war. Our hotel (1 night) is considered one of the best in the world!

DAYS 2-3 - DANANG
Heading out into the countryside, we see rows of farmers tending rice paddies. After a long-tail boat ride on the Mekong River, we hop onto bikes for an easy, guided ride into the delta to visit a fish farm and a dragon fruit orchard. A late-day flight lands us at spectacular Furama Resort on China Beach (2 nights). From here, we’ll visit an authentic rural village, see how rice is milled and make time for fun on the white sand beach. In the old Imperial Capital of Hue, we’ll get a guided visit to the Forbidden Purple City and meet the descendants of the king.

DAYS 4-5 - HANOI
In Hanoi, we stay at the city’s most elegant hotel which also happens to have a great pool area (2 nights) and spend our days exploring colorful pagodas, meeting the students at a tiny village school, and catching a water puppetry performance. While the kids head of with their own guide, adults enjoy dinner at the legendary Press Club.

DAY 6 - HALONG BAY
Halong Bay is called the 8th Wonder of the World. You’ll agree when we board our luxury junk for an overnight cruise through the spectacular islands to visit a floating village, go sea kayaking, and get a lesson in Vietnamese cooking. Next morning, there’s time to explore a cave or loll on deck before our flight to Laos.

DAYS 7-8 - LUANG PRABANG
In Luang Prabang (2 nights), we’ll join our guide Toubee to see the town’s great night market. Early the next day, he’ll be sure we see the silent daily ritual of barefoot monks walking the streets to collect alms. You’ll also get to try your hand as a mahout—an elephant trainer—on a visit to 2,000-acre sanctuary, followed by a longtail boat ride back to our hotel.

DAYS 9-10 - SIEM REAP
For the grande finale, make the short hop to Siem Reap in Cambodia (1 night). We’ll pay multiple visits to the amazing temples at Angkor. Our friend Roath leads the way on guided visits with chances to see how different these archeological wonders look at sunset and sunrise. It’s a nice easy pace that offers you the choice of exploring the sites in detail…or relaxing by the pool at our world-famous hotel. In the afternoon of our final day, you'll part company with your guide in Siem Reap.
The kids will love...

The climate of Vietnam varies considerably from North to South. North Vietnam has four distinct seasons. Summer (May to August) is very warm weather and occasional heavy rains. Fall (September to November) is drier with occasional rainfall. Winter (late November to January) is dry and cold. Spring (February to April) is warmer and often overcast and damp. South Vietnam is hot and humid. The wet season is from May to November. Expect brief downpours that provide relief from the heat. The dry season is from December to April. Temperatures in the south vary little from month to month. Highs are 88-93 and lows are 72-79 year round. Cambodia’s temperatures vary little year round, and the climate is similar to that of South Vietnam. Luang Prabang features a tropical wet and dry climate. While the city is generally very warm throughout the course of the year, it is noticeably cooler during the months of December and January. Its wet season runs from March through September and the dry season covers the remaining five months.
