Introduction
How many kids do you know who've seen fields that are completely purple? Or kayaked under a Roman aqueduct? Or listened to monks chanting in an ancient abbey? Your family will be the exception by the end of this amazing family vacation in France. Provence is perfect for a mellow family vacation. There are good walks…amazing countryside hotel…and memorable food. (Who knew the French ate pizza?). The adults will be welcomed to one of the fine vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. We’ve arranged a provençal cooking lesson for those so inclined. And everyone enjoys exploring the bories, weird circular stone huts that no one can explain. We love bringing families to this region because it’s unique enough for everyone to feel far from home…but so easy that even the least-seasoned traveler has fun.
Itinerary at a glance
We meet in Avignon for a kid-friendly stroll to the awesome 14th century Papal Palace, then head for our village hotel at the foot of the Alpilles. Explore the seaside Camargue region on horseback. Savor a colorful Provençal market, and kids dig into lessons in pastry, painting, and pottery. See a light show in a rock quarry. Enjoy easy walks through apricot groves and lavender fields.

Near the Pont du Gard, a Roman aqueduct that soars overhead is the start of a family kayaking excursion. Later, the kids will thrill to visit the Haribo candy factory, and you anticipate wine tasting in Châteauneauf-du-Pape, before parting company in Avignon.
The kids will love...
  • Exploring prehistoric caves
  • A pottery class in a local village
  • A game of boules followed by ice cream

Guest Reviews
“Gordana was very special. She made trip a wonderful experience for my family and by the end, she felt like part of the family. Her knowledge of area was incredible but her most special trait was her personality. She was always happy and so kind to us and made everything so interesting. She is a real asset to your company. She was the highlight of the trip and for that I will be forever thankful.”
Edward G., Spring Lake, MI

“I have visited other parts of France before, but had never experienced Provence. I love the interesting history and culture of region, and the food is simply amazing.”
Jennifer B., Tustin, CA

“My personal favorite moment was the private wine tasting with Guy Bremond at Chateuneuf-du-Pape. Our kids enjoyed the kayaking and the cooking lesson with Roger Merlin. However, I think we all agreed that having Gordana as our guide was the most important aspect of us enjoying our visit to Provence.”
David K., Piedmont, CA

“The fact that our granddaughter absolutely enjoyed this trip the the best. And I must admit, I probably had more fun on this trip than any other.”

Provence has a semi-arid climate, reminiscent of San Diego, California. Days are usually quite sunny, with bright blue skies. The temperature can vary significantly from winter to summer (especially when the Mistral wind blows in the winter). We suggest packing clothes that can be worn in layers, as early morning and evening can often have a chill that during the middle of the day is quickly replaced with warm sunshine.
