Introduction
Alaska is fantastic family fun. You could predict the snowy peaks, the moose and mountain goats, the glaciers and the salmon-bakes. The bigger, better surprise is how easy it is to have an active, varied vacation in the biggest state without having to cover a lot of ground. The Kenai Peninsula has everything you came for and more — so we can show you an expansive, good time in one neat week. We don’t just see the glaciers, we walk and kayak right up to them. Puffins, black bear and sea otters are practically everyday sights. You’ll meet native Aleuts, local fishermen, gold miners and naturalists. We’ve also arranged river rafting expeditions, lakeside picnics and gold mine visits. And just how many families do you know who’ve gone hand-tramming, spit-walking and tide-pooling together? Though wilderness is never far away, we’ve scouted out very civilized resorts and lodges for everybody’s comfort.
The kids will love...
  • Walking on a glacier
  • Rafting on the Kenai River & kayaking in wilderness bays
  • Spotting beluga whales, sea otters, moose and bald eagles
Itinerary at a glance
DAY 1 - ANCHORAGE / GIRDWOOD
We meet in Anchorage and begin our adventure with a drive along the scenic Cook Inlet. We’ll stop for whale watching and take our first walk on the Byron Glacier Trail with a chance to spot moose and other wildlife.

DAYS 2-3 - SEWARD
We’ll walk on the famous Iditarod dog trail. Then we take an amazing tram ride to the top of Mt. Alyeska for lunch and awesome views. Back in the valley, we’ll walk right up to the base of Exit Glacier. From our lodge in Seward (2 nights), it’s easy to stroll the town’s streets and see the shops and galleries. Our guides outfit us for some easy sea-kayaking in Thumb Cove with seal lions and otters. Then, we take an evening cruise into Kenai Fjords National Park and explore the shoreline of Resurrection Bay.

DAYS 4-6 - HOMER
At Cooper Landing, you’ll have the choice to take a piloted raft ride on the Kenai River or a terrific guide-led walk through a spruce forest and wildflowers. The day ends in Homer (2 nights) where our lodge sits on a gravel spit that curls out into the bay. We’ll see the halibut fishing boats returning to port. And we’ll board a boat of our own for a day in Kachemak Bay State Park – complete with a picnic on a glacier-fed lake, views of a seabird rookery and spectacular wilderness views. There’s great shopping in Homer – and a final chance to go tide-pooling to spot starfish, crabs and sea urchins.
