Love is in the air at Classic Journeys
Several recent engagements and nuptials by Classic Journeys’ guests have us wondering. Is love in the air? Is there something in the water?
If it’s something in the water, the impact appears to be global, because it’s occurring in places as far afield as the Pacific Northwest’s Puget Sound, Scotland’s Loch Fyne, and Spain’s Panta de Sau.
Michael’s monumental inspiration
Inveraray Castle is the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll, Chief of the Clan Campbell and the iconic, first visit for Classic Journeys’ walking tours in Scotland.
The spring season got started with a bang in May on Classic Journeys’ walking tour in Scotland. Michael Brock was traveling with his girlfriend Amy Roach. As they arrived at Inveraray Castle, Michael thought the setting was so romantic that he dropped down on bended knee and proposed to Amy right there. (She said yes!) Michael had done some legwork in advance of the trip, buying the engagement ring a couple months before the departure and asking Amy’s family for her hand. On the big day, our guide Ronnie and fellow guests were exploring the grounds at Inveraray Castle. Mike and Amy were off on their own enjoying the acclaimed gardens when Mike was so taken away by the romance of the setting that he asked Amy Roach to marry him. As they reunited with their fellow guests, they announced to the everyone that they were engaged!
Nuptials + sea kayaking + whale watching = a perfect day
Classic Journeys’ Puget Sound’s San Juan Islands trips offer guests the chance to sea kayak with Orca whales.
Soon after, we received a reservation from Heather Nimmons and James Lynch for our July 22 Puget Sound’s San Juan Islands trip. Their plan: bespoke July 23 to create their own perfectly planned deviation from our planned activities..at least for the morning! Their day played out this way: wedding ceremony and lunch complemented by Friday Harbor House’s stunning marina views. Then, the freshly minted…and fueled…newlyweds joined their fellow Classic Journeys’ guests for an afternoon of sea kayaking and whale watching! The area is prime orca whale territory and it gave Heather and James the opportunity to see the great mammals up close. They boarded stable, easy-to-paddle two-person kayaks and, in the company of expert kayakers and our guide, paddled through the calm, protected waters of the Haro Strait to play with the whales as they search for salmon.

Travelers looking for parador vacations in Spain can fill their wish list with Classic Journeys’ Barcelona tours. Guests stay at two stylish paradors: in Vic Sau and Aiguablava.
Beating Michael, Amy, James and Heather to the punch were Jessica Ilic and Lori Hunter, who arranged for several friends to participate on Classic Journeys’ Costa Brava and Barcelona walking tour. The couple put their own spin on the trip by opting out of one day’s activities altogether in favor of a civil wedding ceremony and lunch on the spectacularly sited terrace at the Parador de Vic Sau. Located just about 50 miles west of Barcelona, the boutique hotel is one of Spain’s famed parador hotels; in this case a carefully restored Catalan farmhouse-turned 4-star hotel located in the countryside outside the ancient town, and perched on a plateau at the confluence of two rivers. As part of the Classic Journeys’ Costa Brava and Barcelona walking tour, Jessica and Lori spent two nights there enjoying the the well-tended gardens, bedrooms with terraces and magnificent swimming pool.
Our sincere thanks to Michael and Amy, James and Heather, Jessica and Lori, and all of the many, many other couples who have allowed us to be part of their nuptials, anniversaries and other celebrations.
