We meet in Bern for a stroll and a train ride to Lenk (4 nights). We wake in our alpine chalet and head for a behind-the-scenes bakery tour, samples included! While the kids join a craftsperson in a silhouette cutting class, a local expert takes the adults for a nature walk in the lush upper Simmental Valley.

Fortified by hot chocolate, we board a chairlift for a morning glide up to Leiterli where the views are awesome. We'll also visit a farm where the kids can try herding goats. While they head off for river rafting, the adults get time for a romantic walk to a collection of historic painted chalets.

In the morning, we explore a 12th century castle complete with armor before a steamer and funicular deliver us up to our mountaintop hotel in Mürren (2 nights). From here, a gentle path leads to a cable car ascent of the Schilthorn for lunch. Our final day, we ride down by cable car to Stechelberg for a visit to the Swiss Open-Air Museum before training to Zurich.
