Classic Journeys Steps Up Walking Tours on Four Continents For 2010

Argentina, France, Morocco & Nova Scotia top list of new tours

La Jolla, CA (September 2009) – Take your pick of continents: North America, South America, Europe, Africa. What’s the connection? Classic Journeys has a new adventure trip on tap there for 2010.

“These four new adventure travel tours immerse our guests in history, culture and incredible natural beauty,” explains Edward Piegza, president and co-founder of Classic Journeys. “From our unique vantage point – primarily on foot – the emphasis is on doing rather than just seeing.”

Argentina Adventure Travel
First up is Argentina...where guests on the company’s all-new tour of Patagonia & Mendoza take in gauchos, guanacos, and the most stunning glacial scenery in South America. Guests strap on crampons and cross a portion of the Perito Moreno Glacier, picnic on a volcanic slope, and cruise among freshly calved icebergs on a crystalline lake. It’s the ultimate edition of the Great Outdoors.

In the Mendoza region, guests make their way along the “Route of the Wines,” touring and tasting Malbecs and Cabernets in the company of an expert agronomist. With departures in November, January and March, the trip offers a pleasant escape from North America’s winter weather at the height of Argentina’s spring and summer. Beginning and ending in beautiful Buenos Aires, the 9-day, 8-night Argentina travel adventure trip starts at $4695 per person, double occupancy (land only), plus internal flights of approximately $790 per person.

Bordeaux & the Dordogne Valley Walking Tour
In a classic example of how to make a great itinerary even better, Classic Journeys has taken its existing cultural walking tour of Dordogne and added Bordeaux at its bountiful best. From their base in ancient St. Emilion, guests punctuate scenic walks with tastings of famous wines and incomparable French cuisine. In the Dordogne Valley, guests step back in time to ponder prehistoric cave paintings and castle ruins… meander along winding rivers…and accompany one of the region’s most renowned experts on a private truffle-hunt. Land-only prices for the 7-day, 6-night Dordogne & Bordeaux tour start at $3795 per person, double occupancy, with departures from May through October.

Meanwhile, family bonding gets a boost from two popular itineraries specially tweaked for multiple generations to enjoy.

Morocco Family Vacation
Bookended by visits to exotic Fes and Marrakesh, the company’s Morocco family tour package makes Berber culture come alive.  Ali, the Berber guide, introduces guests to the walled village of Rissani and the surrounding countryside, stopping to chat with local residents along the way. From there, guests head to Merzouga for a camel ride over colossal sand dunes.  Led by indigenous Blue Man guides, they witness a legendary desert sunset, then caravan to a lantern-lit, luxury tent encampment for the night.

Family Vacation in Nova Scotia
On the company’s Nova Scotia family vacation, guests explore the grandeur of our own Canadian backyard. From hiking coastal paths and forest trails to sea kayaking and whale watching, kids and grown-ups make the most of this maritime province…including a ferry ride to a private island for a lobster bake, with a storytelling sea captain as their personal guide.

As always on Family Journeys, the company offers a budget-friendly price break: when sharing a room with two full-paying guests, kids up to age 16 receive discounts ranging from $500 to $1750 off the regular adult price, while kids sharing a room with one full-paying guest receive a discount of $250.

The goal at Classic Journeys has always been to travel in a way that nobody else does...and the way everyone wishes they could.
