Classic Journeys Launches Montenegro Walking Tour For 2011

New destination delivers undiscovered natural beauty and cultural experiences

La Jolla, CA (August 2010) – Mountains and the sea...two simple reasons why Classic Journeys has chosen  Montenegro as its newest cultural walking adventure for 2011.

"For us, Montenegro is a natural next step," observes Edward Piegza, president and founder of Classic Journeys, "especially following on the heels of our other two Adriatic trips to Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast and the Istrian Peninsula."

From its pristine shoreline to the black-pine forests that blanket its mountainous interior, this brand-new country (circa 2006) is clearly a winner. But how to go about introducing a new destination that many folks – understandably – might have trouble finding on a map?

By embracing the fact that Montenegro is still off-the-grid, remote and unexpected. For guests, each day brings new adventures, like hopping in the back of a 4X4 to travel to the head of a mountain trail that leads to lunch with a family of shepherds in their modest, yet charming huts.

Blend in an ever-changing cast of characters, from the olive grower who welcomes guests into her farmhouse for a private tasting to the mosaic artist who treats guests to a private demonstration of his centuries-old craft, and you've got the makings of a cultural feast.

Where else in the course of a week can you experience seaside villages basking in balmy, Mediterranean-like breezes, coastal inlets reminiscent of fjords, and craggy peaks with soaring river canyons...in a country roughly the size of Connecticut?

It’s a team effort almost two years in the making, drawing on the combined resources and talents of the company’s team in La Jolla, its senior go-to guide in Europe (with his sixth sense for ferreting out extraordinary encounters), and its on-the-ground expert, Vesna, a native of the former Yugoslavia. Together, they've created an itinerary that spotlights scenic national parks, UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the Bay of Kotor, and enough historical drama for a country 10 times the size.

Montenegro – Adriatic Treasure debuts in May 2011, followed by four more departures in June, July, September and October. Prices for the seven day/six night adventure begin at $3,895 per person, double occupancy (land only), including all breakfasts, four lunches, and five dinners.
