Back-To-Back Italy Walking Tours Offer Double La Dolce Vita

Classic Journeys showcases Amalfi Coast/Sicily combo at significant savings

La Jolla, CA (April 2010) – Question: What's the only thing better than a week in Southern Italy?  Answer: two weeks in Southern Italy...at a savings of up to $450 per person.

Classic Journeys makes it easy to enjoy the sweet life in this sun-swept region with back-to-back walking adventures departing four times a year.  What began as a happy coincidence on the company’s tour calendar has become a popular way for guests to maximize their time in Europe, milk every penny of their transatlantic airfares...and receive a bonus to boot.

In May, June, September and October, guests can experience the Amalfi Coast guided luxury tour, including a two-night stay on Capri. Then, at the end of a dazzling week of hiking coastal trails and meandering the streets of cliffhugging villages, there's Sicily, easily reached by overnight ferry from Naples (with dinner en route and private en-suite cabins) and a seamless transfer to a 5-star hotel in Palermo.

For guests who book back-to-back Amalfi and Sicily tours departing in 2010, Classic Journeys will cover the costs of transitioning from Amalfi to Sicily, as well as knock off a bit extra on their second trip...all told, a savings of up to $450 per person.

Two distinct trips, two distinct sides of Southern Italy: the Amalfi Coast, once popularized by the British, elegant and refined with its magnificent villas, luxurious shopping and to-die-for views.  Sicily, more rustic and less traveled, where vast seashores remain unspoiled and backcountry farmers still make their way to market on donkeys.

*  In Amalfi, guests receive a haunting history lesson among the ruins of Pompeii; on Sicily, guests not only stroll, but actually stay among the ancient Greek ruins in the Valley of the Temples at Agrimento.

*  Near Amalfi, a rim walk on Mt. Vesuvius provides an awesome perspective of the crater that few people ever see, while on Sicily, guests picnic halfway up the slopes of Mt. Etna in full view of the lava dunes.

*  After the heady hustle and bustle of Capri, a day trip to Lipari, largest of the Aeolian Islands off of Sicily, is a perfect counterpoint.  As one well-traveled guest recently observed about Sicily and the Aeolians, a true crossroads of European civilization, “the Greek ruins here are better preserved and more stunning than the ones in Greece.”

Every step of the way, guests travel in the company of the company’s head guide, Sergio, who could write the book on these two regions (if he only had the time).  As accustomed as company staffers are to guests singing Sergio's praises, Shirley Rosema of Grand Haven, Michigan – a six-time traveler with Classic Journeys – recently said it best:

"I enjoyed myself so much on the Amalfi & Sicily tours.  Sergio is a great guide and I can still hardly believe all the things we managed to do in those short two weeks.  I want to do both trips all over again. Once is just not enough for those views and walks.  The only trouble is, I promised Luciano I’d get to Corsica and I told myself I’d see those caves in France!  I don’t know where I’ll travel next but I know it will be with Classic Journeys."
