Casa Delfino
Situated in the old town of Chania, this 20-room hotel is an elegant and carefully restored 17th century Venetian mansion. The rooms reflect the hotel's artful combination of old and new—exposed brick arches are paired with wood furniture, modern bathrooms, hardwood and tile floors and colorful bedspreads.

The Greek Isles have a warm, semi-arid climate. Mid-summer is warmer during the day and still comfortably cool in the evenings.  We’ll be spending the vast majority of our time along the coast, where the warm sunshine is moderated by the breezes that blow off the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas.

Fire in the Sea: The Santorini Volcano - William Friedrich
A scholarly survey of the geologic history of Santorini. Friedrich focuses on the massive eruption in the 16th or 17th century B.C. that destroyed the thriving Minoan civilization (and may have inspired the legend of Atlantis).
