What the weather is like
The temperature variation in Costa Rica is very small from one season to the next and from daytime to nighttime. The climate of the areas visited during the first half of the trip is mild. During the second half of the trip, in the rain forests, the climate is warmer and more humid. In the cloud forest, the precipitation (usually in the form of a light mist) from the Pacific catches on the high trees of the forest. Manuel Antonio Park is a lowland rain forest, situated at sea level. As such, it is warmer and more humid than the other areas. However, our lodge is located in the hills above the park and beaches, offering us cooling trade winds.

Background reading
Tropical Nature - Adrian Forsyth, Ken Miyata
A lively, lucid portrait of the rain forest as seen by two uncommonly observant and thoughtful field biologists. Its essays introduce the habitats, ecology, plants and animals of the Central and South American rain forest.
The Ticos, Culture and Social Change in Costa Rica -
Richard Biesanz
An insightful, fact-filled portrait of Costa Rican culture, history and society. It’s an excellent survey for the interested traveler, covering history, government and politics, the economy, the family, education, and religion.
