Belize—Rainforest & Reef

Itinerary at a glance

We arrive in Belize City and transfer to our lodge in the pristine Cayo Rainforest (3 nights). Amazing nature walks include the opportunity to glimpse hummingbirds and toucans. We also penetrate the jungle as we amble along the trail to Caracol, where our guide leads us on an exploration of the towering Mayan temple and other archaeological treasures. The next day offers the option of a walking and wading visit of Actun Tunichil cave—or an easier river raft excursion through Barton Creek Cave.

After a quick flight to Punta Gorda, we'll check into our Caribbean lodge (3 nights). We'll combine canoeing on the Rio Grande River with a riverside walk where you're likely to spot monkeys. An entire day is set aside for snorkeling with our guide above the stunning coral reef. It's one of the great wonders of the natural world and an experience you'll talk about for years. After a visit to the fascinating Mayan ruins of Lubaantun, lunch with a village family precedes a dip in the cascading pools at Rio Blanco Falls. On our final day, we fly back to Belize City in time for international departure flights.
