  • The Amalfi Coast & Capri Family Tour

Itinerary at a glance

We meet in Naples (1 night) and start our Amalfi Coast family vacation with a short journey to Mt. Vesuvius. An awesome walk on the crater’s rim offers spectacular views of the entire Amalfi Coast, and the opportunity to see the islands and coastline that we’ll explore together over the week.

We reach the famed island of Capri by hydrofoil and settle into our spa-hotel (2 nights).  There’s a very cool walk to the ruins of Roman Emperor Tiberius’ villa, perched on a scenic cliff. And because we are staying two nights, we can linger in the piazzetta, shop and explore like the locals after the day-trippers have returned home. Next morning, a fun ride on the chairlift takes us to Monte Solaro, followed by a glamorous beachside lunch and swimming in the sparkling blue waters at Marina Piccola. Later, a boat cruise into the caves of the Blue Grotto put an exclamation mark on the day.

Back on the mainland, we check into our cliff-clinging hotel in Positano (3 nights). You'll find the shopping here is sensational. After a walk down a scenic valley with awesome waterfalls and the ruins of medieval mills, the kids try their hands at paper-making while you see how limoncello, the local lemon liqueur, is made. (The kids may be interested to know that the nearby village of Amalfi has a gelato shop on each corner of its square.) You’ll also get a sea-level view of the awesome coastline as we kayak to a secluded beach at the foot of a cliff.

On our final day we tour the fabled excavations at Pompeii with an archeologist-friend who is great at capturing the imaginations of kids and adults before we part company in nearby Naples.
